Either http://www.hartsfabric.com/silk-voile-62605.html or http://www.hartsfabric.com/cotton-silk-blend-fabric57508.html – both colours I don’t usually go for. Thx for the chance! :)

I adore a rich dark orange and any kind of silk tickles my fancy so this would be a divine fabric for me:

Oh so lovely! I would love to make the Peony dress with the “Rosettes Fashion Fabric Dusty Pink” as a skirt and some kind of drastic contrast as the top and in various trims. I was originally thinking a black top with matching pink at the sleeves, but my husband suggested it might work well with a red for a fun and flirty valentines day/summer look.

November 3, 2011 #

So hard to choose! I would probably go for the checked wool for a nice winter dress

November 3, 2011 #

Picking fabric is always the most challenging part of the process for me! I think it would be fun to do the short sleeved version of the dress in Recycled Hemp and Organic Cotton Fabric Woven Grey and the waistband in the buttery yellow Birch Organics New School Sun. :)

Lauren

November 3, 2011 #

I love this one: http://www.hartsfabric.com/silk-chiffon-fabric59639.html. Fun retro vibe, matching some fun 70’s style shoes I have!

Nani Iro Blue Floral Double Gauze it’s has the right about of print without over powering the dress design.

Miriam

November 3, 2011 #

I would sew up the dress in the green floral. What a wonderful material to perk up the up coming fall and winter days!

Sarah

November 3, 2011 #

I think the Graceful Birds Cotton Voile Fabric is so much fun, but I also love Liberty of London Carnation Lawn Fabric.

Lene’

November 3, 2011 #

I would choose the Turquoise Cotton Dotted Swiss Fashion Fabric. http://www.hartsfabric.com/dotted-swiss-fabric59326.html
That would be so pretty to me!

pammyk

November 3, 2011 #

I would use the stretch silk cotton fabric in aqua and grey floral for view 2 of this lovely dress; and I would make the contrasting cumberbund/belt from the gray denim soft tencel fabric. Nothing like accenting the waist to look smaller with the solid dark against the beautiful floral dress!

Jenn Nelson

November 3, 2011 #

Oh man! I love the Teal Little Honey Floral Cotton Voile Fabric by Anna Maria Horner! That would definitely be my choice for making the Peony Dress! Swoon*

November 3, 2011 #

I’d use either the Liberty “green berry bush black” : http://www.hartsfabric.com/liberty-of-london-lawn-fabric61978.html or the Tula Prince Charming voile dandelion in indigo http://www.hartsfabric.com/tula-pink-cotton-voile-dandelion-fashion-apparel-fabric62067.html. They’re both so lovely, I can’t decide!

Julie

November 3, 2011 #

This is an exciting giveaway! Picking just one fabric is a difficult decision! But because I love stripes and the ease of cotton I would probably choose the Indigo Stripe Yarn Dyed Cotton: http://www.hartsfabric.com/indigo-stripe-fabric-cotton61495.html.

Thanks! Julie

The “Wide Echino Fabric Black Bird” is so bold and dramatic! I have had a hard time making a statement with my wardrobe in the past (besides, “wall flower”), but I decided recently to branch out, and I’m really enjoying being “unstuck” and I think that this would fit the bill perfectly!

Jen

November 3, 2011 #

The Peony pattern would be beautiful in the Armani wool cashmere blend here: http://www.hartsfabric.com/armani-designer-suiting-fabric59054.html. It’s a classic fabric, but the Peony design gives it new interest with the cummerbund like waist.

anneke

November 3, 2011 #

i’m known for wearing basics with pretty prints… i’d make the peony in this fabric:

http://www.hartsfabric.com/naomi-ito-japanese-fabric-stripes61867.html

it could take me from summer to autumn and back!

mjb

November 3, 2011 #

Thank you for the giveaway! I love the Floral Silk Chiffon Eggplant and the Hawaiian Rayon Challis Fabric Floral Aqua fabrics, but it’s so hard to pick only one of the so many gorgeous fabrics.

Amy

November 3, 2011 #

I would make this great dress out of Red Silk Haberdasher Fabric. The dress is simple and and sweet. I like the idea of making it in this delicious soft red fabric to give it a kick of sexy and show off the nice lines of dress without losing them in a pattern. Break out the red lipstick!

Renee

November 3, 2011 #

I love the idea of the Peony in the sweet floral rayon challis print. The drape of that fabric would be perfect for fall or winter.

Jessica

November 3, 2011 #

The Peony would look wonderful in so many of these fabrics! But the one I find most inspiring is the rayon twill in the navy-red floral.

Chris

November 3, 2011 #

Love that Peony dress – and it has sleeve length options, too!

I would choose the Hawaiian Fabric Rayon Surfing Navy fabric –
Item #: 59324

:-)

A chic Peony in this pretty turquoise linen blend would be perfect for the upcoming holidays and beyond! http://www.hartsfabric.com/turquoise-echino-cotton-linen-fabric56322.html

November 3, 2011 #

Tough choice! I’m going to say the Liberty of London Tana Lawn Fabric Green Berry Bush Black, because I’m dreaming and can pick a fabric normally way out of my price range!

Tania

November 3, 2011 #

I love those: http://www.hartsfabric.com/hemp-silk-fabric61047.html (Hemp Silk Fashion Fabric Cranberry) and http://www.hartsfabric.com/silk-fabric-fashion59212.html (Embroidered Floral Silk Eyelet Fashion Fabric Red).

Erica

November 3, 2011 #

I think the peony would be a nice solid dress in the silk cotton sateen, either the slate or the cranberry color for me.

Andrea C

November 3, 2011 #

I’d love a Peony in the Silk Cotton Voile in Purple. It’s such a luscious color!

Beth

November 3, 2011 #

I’d make it with Liberty of London Tana Lawn Fabric Green Berry Bush Black! And thanks for the giveaway!!

Kathi Giumentaro

November 3, 2011 #

This was a tough decision. I love the Peony dress and would make it out of the Turquoise Vining Floral Lace Fabric lined in black. I think that would be a stunning combination and just in time for the holidays.
Thanks for a chance at such a great give away.

Frances

November 3, 2011 #

Liberty of London Geometric: http://www.hartsfabric.com/liberty-london-geometric-63178.html

I’d make the dress sleeveless and do a black belt. In cold months I’d wear it over a black turtleneck and tights, with some cute blue shoes.

Hmm… a pink belt would be good too… maybe I could make the belt detachable so I could swap it out?

HeidiMonkey

November 3, 2011 #

I’d LOVE to make it in the Amy Butler rayon peacock fabric. It would be so lovely!

I have to say that I just bought your book yesterday and am so delighted to have it. It is just what I needed. And if I were to win I think that the double gauze fabric in Heather brown would make a beautiful Peony. I have a stash of double gauze that I could use for the sash. http://www.hartsfabric.com/japanese-import-fabric-double-gauze61337.html
Again, Congrats on the book. It is so well done and fills a much need niche in the sewing handbook world.

Michelle

November 3, 2011 #

Thanks for bringing Hart’s to my attention, lots of great choices. I think, in dreamland I’d pick the orange lame printed silk tweed – but only in dreamland can I wear that orange so in ‘woo I have $100 to spend at fabric at Hart’s!’ I’d pick the Liberty of London Tana Lawn – Geometric. Would lawn require underlining I wonder?

hh

November 3, 2011 #

This is the most gorgeous red, although it seems like it might be too lightweight–but maybe with underlining, it would work well? http://www.hartsfabric.com/silk-haberdasher-red-64098.html

Otherwise, there are so many awesome Japanese fabrics to choose from:
indigo flowered double gauze
http://www.hartsfabric.com/imported-blue-floral-double-gauze-62030.html
or another navy blue flowered fabric
http://www.hartsfabric.com/nani-iro-japanese-62824.html

lacy damask linen
http://www.hartsfabric.com/kokka-japanese-62831.html

Echino birds
http://www.hartsfabric.com/echino-extra-wide62401.html

Hanna

November 3, 2011 #

I think I’d want to make it with one of the eyelet fabrics.

Jenny

November 3, 2011 #

Peony in Nani Iro blue floral double gauze would be super cute & spring time-y. After looking at Sarai’s recent Peony and rifka’s tunic, I’m thinking piping (coral-y orange? yellow?) instead of cummerbund.

Caroline

November 3, 2011 #

I would use the Crimson Silk Cotton Sateen Fabric — would love to have a Peony in vibrant red! Especially with a contrast black cummerbund.

Jenn

November 3, 2011 #

I’d love to make that dress in Kokka Floral Pique Cotton Fabric Black. I think the pattern would work well and I love the color combination of the fabric

Sandra Horton

November 3, 2011 #

Sarah

November 3, 2011 #

The peony dress would look great in this Anna Sui wool blend check:

http://www.hartsfabric.com/anna-sui-fashion-fabric58506.html

And, it would be a great basic for work.

Allie

November 3, 2011 #

Oddly enough, I was in harts yesterday eying the peony’s that they had on display. I think I’d want to do one in the Silk Cotton Sateen Fabric Black with the belt in http://www.hartsfabric.com/retro-green-crochet-lace-62566.html. Or maybe one of the double gauze’s. Or some beautiful black lace that I saw in person, but not on their website.

Jen

November 3, 2011 #

I would love to make the dress from the black lace topped grey wool. It would make such a great addition to my fall/winter work wear wardrobe.

Shineun

November 3, 2011 #

Umm…. This is hard but I would pick either the:
Linen Fashion Lightweight Sweater Knit Fabric Rust!
http://www.hartsfabric.com/linen-fabric-knit59215.html
Or the:
Italian Silk Fabric Grey Diamond Chiffon!
http://www.hartsfabric.com/italian-silk-fabric-chiffon58855.html
Either one of these beautiful fabrics would make lovely day and evening dresses! Perfect for work or a night one the town! ^^ Yay! Thanks for this opportunity! I hope that you have a wonderful day!

Patty Hatfield

November 3, 2011 #

I would make a short sleeve version in a silk cotton sateen in crimson.

EllenL

November 3, 2011 #

I think the Italian Silk Grey Plaid Chiffon would make a gorgeous Peony! http://www.hartsfabric.com/italian-silk-fabric-chiffon58856.html

iamnotanoctopus

November 3, 2011 #

Oooh… As long as I’m spending free money, I would probably make the short-sleeved version with the Nano Iro Blue Floral Double Gauze here: http://www.hartsfabric.com/imported-blue-floral-double-gauze-62030.html. Or the Ivory Floral… or the Abstract Specks… but definitely some of that lovely double gauze! I’d underline it with something a little crisper to give it some structure and make it a little less delicate, of course.

Katie

November 3, 2011 #

Wow, I do love Hart’s- they have such a great range!

I think I’d make my Peony in “Hemp Silk Fashion Fabric Cranberry” or “Mustard Gold Bamboo Dobby Fabric”, as I’m rather into using eco fabrics at the moment, and these are gorgeous!

November 3, 2011 #

November 3, 2011 #

I just love Nani Iro fabrics…
I think the classic Peony would be great using a non regular design like these beautiful flowers in shades of blue:

Sara

November 3, 2011 #

I am partial to the Anna Sui Tiny Check grey wool fabric for the dress. I adore wool weight for fall that can be layered for winter. Going with a grey palette in the dress will allow for color pops with accessories and contrasting belt choices. Ooooh, this would be so pretty!

Rachel

I think the Purple floral double gauze could be really pretty and even though it’s lightweight could transition seasons well. http://www.hartsfabric.com/nani-iro-double-gauze-fabric-fashion-apparel-fabrics-cotton62029.html

Laura B

November 3, 2011 #

I’m not sure about the fabric because the swatch that shows is so small and I can’t tell about the repeat, with that said,I think I’d go with the Asian Bamboo Print 100% cotton in black & white – #6005 – I think that’s unfussy enough to show off the lovely lines of Peony. I am pretty excited about this giveaway…

Kathy

November 3, 2011 #

I really love the Nani Iro florals…I would make this in the very versatile Blue Floral Double Gauze to wear year-round!

Tina

November 3, 2011 #

Thanks!

I love the idea of Purple Floral Nani Iro Double Gauze Cotton Fabric for Peony!

November 3, 2011 #

I am not sure if this fabric would do well with the Peony, but I would love to have a red dress, super simple, but luxurious. So, I think I’d try for this red silk noil, as it sounds like it’d behave well enough with the pattern: http://www.hartsfabric.com/redsilknoi.html

mary

November 3, 2011 #

i would choose the beautiful anna sui tiny check wool fabric. i’ve made two peony dresses in heavier fabrics already and i absolutely love them! i modified the pattern slightly to give it a midriff waistband of sorts, but i love peony in a heavier weight fabric. i think the anna sui fabric perfectly suits a boat neck. and who could resist those tiny checks? so cute!

Go Green!

Hyena In Petticoats

What an amazing giveaway! I am new to Hart’s fabric, too – so it was great to have a reason to go in and browse – such a lot of gorgeous voiles and double gauze!

In the end though, for a Peony, I would have to go with this bold floral rayon:

http://www.hartsfabric.com/floral-rayon-challis-fabric61301.html

I love rayon for dresses – so user friendly!

I selected for the elegant bateau neck sheath dress, Harts beautiful fabric collection by Giorgio Armani, Designer High Fashion: Suiting Fabric Wool and Cashmere Stripe Black, #59054, making the dress with 3/4 length sleeves, a matching belt, and no pockets. I would also use the same pattern shape and cut out a matching coat.
