I’ve been wanting to make myself some dresses in fun patterns. So I would go with either (http://www.hartsfabric.com/retro-ruby-star-rising-fabric-kokka-melody-miller-view-finder-reels61308.html) or (http://www.hartsfabric.com/floral-dot-circle-sewing-quilting-cotton-print-fabric52859.html). Don’t you think those view-finder reels would look amazing? And I love the feel of linen-cotton blends so much, I don’t even mind the ironing.

The Peony would look great in Hart’s Abstract Silk Georgette Print Fabric in Charcoal with a mustard yellow belt!

November 2, 2011 #

I’m going to say the Anna Sui Tiny Check Fashion and Apparel Fabric Wool Blend with a black cummerbund or the silk noil in olive with a smooth silk contrast (perhaps with a pattern). I don’t know–I’m sure I’d spend 100.00 in a heartbeat.

Well . . . I have one in the works in this color:

but I would also love it is this:

You would be the most fashionable fan in the Dean Dome.

Because apparently I only like the expensive fabrics, I thinkthe Imported Nani Iro Blue Floral Double Gauze would be a lovely fabric for the Peony dress! :)

November 2, 2011 #

The raw silk tweed with silver lurex–WOW! This fabric is subtly dressy, and the weave would not fight the Peony’s lines. What a great cocktail dress for the coming season. Here’s wishing!

Hmm, I think I’d use the Valori Wells Dandelion voile, so cute!

This is quite the windfall of prizes you’ve got here! I’ve been looking (unsuccessfully) for some proper toile to make a dress with, but I see there’s some toile-like prints on linen ( http://www.hartsfabric.com/french-fleurs-red-63973.html ), which I’d love to get my hands on! Plus it looks sort of peony like, and then it’d be a peony Peony.

Sarah G.

November 2, 2011 #

Oh my! So many beautiful fabrics on that site! I think for the Peony I would choose the organic cotton and bamboo red and white striped fabric (I think called honeysuckle). I think this dress would look great in a stripe! Fun!

I would love a new dress like this for fall in a wool! I would choose the designer knit wool fashion fabric in orange. I can imagine pairing it with some grey leggings and peacoat with some nice boots!

I’d love to do a Peony in the Armani Wool and Cashmere Suiting fabric (http://www.hartsfabric.com/armani-designer-suiting-fabric59054.html) with the cumberbund in the teal cotton silk (http://www.hartsfabric.com/35870.html). Yum! Now I’m off to look at everyone else’s ideas!

Ooh, this is so hard! I think I would be brave and try color (I never EVER wear color!) so this sheer silk with black, gold and purple painted roses fits the bill:

http://www.hartsfabric.com/crinkle-silk-chiffion-64010.html

It reminds me of the wonderful 1950s dresses in watered silk, with abstract roses. Since it is sheer, I’d wear the Peony dress over a black vintage slip with pleated trim:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/84498154/vintage-slip-1950s-black-crystal-pleat?ref=v1_other_2

I would make a bias binding to finish the neck and sleeve edges of this black silk cotton voile:
http://www.hartsfabric.com/silk-voile-62606.html

Rebecca

November 2, 2011 #

I love all the fabric! The Outfoxed line is amazing and would be fun skirts. But for a dress I love the design in this fabric:
http://www.hartsfabric.com/silk-georgette-fabric61535.html
the trees are amazing!
I am so excited to have a new fabric shop to dream over! Thanks so much.

I am thinking the Japanese Import double gauze fabric – baby dots heather celedon with a contrasting belt might be a great look for Peony. And thanks for the giveaway!

Alison

November 2, 2011 #

Ok, this might be crazy, but I think Peony would look stunning with Rosettes Fashion Fabric Cream or pink. I love the 3D effect of the rosettes. I think Peony made with the cream would make an amazing “short” wedding dress.

Thanks for introducing me to another great online fabric retailer! I’m stuck in a remote location here in TX where the only fabric store in town does not carry more than quilting cotton and cheap broadcloth. :)

If I could choose any of the fabrics for my Peony, I would choose the Anna Sui Tiny Check Wool Blend fabric, making the dress completely office appropriate. But that would be my conservative choice. To spice things up a bit, I’d like to also make a Peony out of a vibrant pattern such as the Floral Rayon Challis, and underline it for stability.

Thanks so much for the chance at such a great giveaway!

The lightweight denim you picked is tempting, but I think I’d go with the Turquoise Cotton Dotted Swiss Fashion Fabric.

There are so many lovely fabrics at Hart’s fabrics. Thanks for this opportunity to peruse their fabrics online and the chance to participate in the drawing. I think the stretch silk/cotton cream floral would make a beautifyl peony dress: http://www.hartsfabric.com/silk-cotton-stretch-knit-fabric60513.html

I was also wondering if the hemp/silk blends would be too stiff for this dress.

So hard to choose, but I really like the hemp denim above. I picked it looking around on the site without realizing it was one of the fabrics on the post! For a party dress maybe the Nani Iro Molly Cloth Red Floral:

Barbara

November 3, 2011 #

Having the main body of the Peony made of :

http://www.hartsfabric.com/anna-sui-fashion-fabric58506.html

which is a 70% wool, 30% polyester would make a classic dress along with the

cummerbund-style belt made of the same fabric overlaid with:

http://www.hartsfabric.com/scallop-lace-white-63321.html

which is a polyester scalloped lace white floral. An interchangeable cummerbund of

just the Anna Sui fabric would be suitable for a less dressy look.

A Peony style creation that would work for more than one occasion. Have a look, I

believe you will agree.

I’m not much into sewing dress or apparels, but this model seems is the one that will get me into, I’m totally in love with it!!!!

I want to make the model 1 (long sleeves, contrasting belt) but I can’t decide between this Italian Imported Black Yarn Dyed Cotton Suiting Fabric in grey or pink (http://www.hartsfabric.com/italian-suiting-black-64093.html) with matching belt with the blue of the same fabric. Or this gorgeous Monaco Organic Cotton Fabric Brown Double Dots by monaluna (http://www.hartsfabric.com/monaluna-monaco-fabric-double-dots58574.html) with matching belt in this lovely Monaco Organic Cotton Fabric Pink Stripe by monaluna (http://www.hartsfabric.com/monaluna-monaco-fabric-stripe58566.html). Again, I’m in love with this dress!

Okay, I have a practical choice–the Olive Silk Noil, since I’ve been wanting to add more green to my wardrobe and have never sewn with a rugged, nubbly silk, and I have a fantasy choice–the Beige Nani Iro Abstract Specks Double Gauze. Yum! I’ve sewn with double gauze before, and it’s wonderfully soft if a bit sticky, so maybe it would be most practical to do the cummerbund in the double gauze. But I keep thinking: it’s so pretty, there should be a lot of it in my life!

Thanks for the fun assignment/giveaway!
