We’re ready for Me-Made-May! Will you join?

mmm

One of my favorite things about working here at Colette is walking into the studio each morning and seeing what me-made garments everyone is wearing. Often, if one of us sews up a great pattern, a few other team members will follow suit. I’m not going to lie, I copy Taylor a lot, because her style is impeccable, and Anna is usually sporting something that looks like it came from a great vintage store, but she actually sewed it up herself. It’s so inspiring!

That’s why we are all so excited for Me-Made-May this year. As a team, we pledge to all wear something handmade every day, and of course we will share it all with you on the Colette and Seamwork Instagram accounts.

At the end of May, we’ll share some of the things we learned about ourselves (and each other) and wrap up all of the fun projects we made here on the blog.

I am also selfishly looking forward to seeing your Colette and Seamwork makes this month. Every Friday, I’ll share a round of your makes to Instagram so we can all enjoy some inspiration. So don’t forget to tag your #colettemakes and #seamworkmakes!

If you need some inspiration to get started this year, check out Sarai’s past Me-Made-May adventures here.

I’m off to start a weekend marathon of sewing. What projects do you have lined up for Me-Made-May this year?

Yes! Joining in this year for the first time! I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys share. I really like your “What We Made” posts here on the blog.

Thanks for the tags above. I have to admit, I usually just tag my Colette and Seamwork makes with #colettepatterns and #seamworkmag on IG… Ah, the complicated world of hashtags….

It is a complicated world, and I think hashtags deserve a post of their own. Those tags are also popular, so feel free to use them!

I am DETERMINED to get a denim jacket made – I’ve had a heck of time finding the right pattern for it though – I haven’t been happy with any of them so far. I don’t want a “classic” denim because it’s too boxy – I don’t want shoulder pads for sure. But that’s my goal :) I’ve also discovered the wonder of making “pant suits”. They were very popular in the sixties and I’ve discovered they are really nice made with soft sturdy cotton/bamboo knit and mixing up the tunic with great pants of course :) so I would really like to make another one of those this month too!

Let me know if you find a good pattern for your denim jacket! That sounds like fun.

Perhaps a Western style jacket (the yokes dip farther down, the front and back panels are cut in two pieces)? Or somewhere between a classic denim and a Chanel style? Make a muslin and just goof around with it (don’t forget wide seam allowances).

Every day is a MeMade day; every day is not a photo day!

Meg, I am also doing some marathon sewing this weekend in preparation for MMM! I’m going to make a knit top and pajama pants over the weekend because I know they will get a lot of wear over the next month. And if I have time I’ll start on some other projects. What are you making?

Excited to see what you make! I was thinking about pajamas, too, because I have some Cotton+Steel that is begging to become PJs (this one!). I don’t have a go-to pattern, though.

So cute!! That fabric is definitely perfect for pjs! Hmmmmm maybe Seamwork should make a pj pattern! ;)

Hey! What pattern is the super cute dress in the top right corner! Love them all and feeling inspired. My kids could easily model a “made my mom may”, but I haven’t gotten my wardrobe far enough yet.

That’s Wren! I think your kids should definitely model your makes in May :)

I’m excited about joining the fun! I finally started making bras and panties last month, so while I can comply, there won’t be photos! I’m on a short trip to visit my dad in Stanwood, WA and realize that I’ve actually me made packed! Only two items are RTW! One Wren, one Moneta, one Marcy Tilton and some Quik Sew with BravoBella underneath.

Is this to be only Colette patterns to be used or any kind of pattern? :)

Me-Made-May is for everyone and all patterns! You can read more about it on So Zo’s blog here. I will just be sharing the Colette and Seamwork makes on Instagram at the end of each week.

If one of you is inspired by a piece in the office you should put it on Instagram. Even if it is a pattern by another company. Spread that inspiration around.
