Photos: Hong Kong
Our stop in Hong Kong was brief, but I know we’ll be back. It definitely made me want to actually see mainland China as well as explore the city much more.
Victoria Peak was every bit as breathtaking as people said, and every bit as crowded. We got a good spot for watching the sun go down and the lights come on though.
We could even see a bit of the water from our hotel room.
When night rolled around, you could definitely see what city Blade Runner’s set designers took their inspiration from. The lights and neon and skyscrapers were otherworldly.
We did make it to Sham Shui Po, but unfortunately due to our tight schedule, ended up there on a day when most of the fabric shops and things were closed up. But we still had fun wandering around, and there was still a lot to see.
This area really put the NY garment district to shame. The amount of stuff in these shops, and the specificity of what they had was incredible. There was an entire little shop that only seemed to have the colorful little craft pom poms! I can’t wait to go back, hopefully on our next trip to Asia.

We also went to Hong Kong then Thailand for our honeymoon in August 2010. HK is an incredible place, and one I would definitely go back to. Especially now I realise I missed out on the fabric district!

That reindeer (?) neon sign photo is wonderful! I love all of these photos – such a nice portrait of Hong Kong, its street scenes and details.

Wonderful pictures! I used to travel to Hong Kong regularly for work. I miss the city and the friends I made there very much! If you make it back someday check out the Yuen Po Bird Garden in Kowloon. It’s a magical place, the elderly men come out early in the morning to “walk their birds” and sit and socialize!
