What kind of fabric did you use? Dark blue denim with a blue polka dot cotton for the inner waistband facing.
How did you decide to reflect your personal style in the pattern? I always seem to gravitate towards neat, fitted styles and that’s what appealed to me about the Ginger pattern, which is a more fitted shape than other A-line skirt patterns. I decided to use denim for this version as it works well with my two favourite retro-style prints: gingham and polka dots. I used a polka dot print for the inside waistband to break up the denim a little. I’ve made quite a few blouses from vintage patterns recently which look best tucked in, so I thought the high waist of this pattern would work perfectly with them. And it does! The gingham blouse in the picture is a 1950’s pattern and is a perfect match with the Ginger.
What thoughts do you have about the project? I’m pleased with the fit – it was a really good, flattering fit for my body shape (curvy) and I didn’t have to make any adjustments to the pattern. It was also very quick and simple to sew so I’ll definitely be making more than one version. The denim I used for this version was a medium/heavy weight fabric which accentuated the A-line shape of the skirt. It will be interesting to see how the pattern works with a fabric with more drape to it and if the shape looks as good. Overall I’m thrilled with the project and I know I’ll wear this skirt a LOT!

An awesome skirt on an awesome lady. I’ve been lucky enough to see this skirt in real life and it’s even better than it looks in photos. In fact, I’m extremely tempted to totally rip it off.

I love the skirt. It turned out really beautiful. Because of this picture i decided to actually buy the pattern, it should be here this week. EEK!
