Her post about the pattern: Beignet Skirt
What kind of fabric did you use? I found the fabric at Joann’s in a random little section titled “globally inspired” or something like that… I’d say it’s got a linen-like feel to it.
How did you decide to reflect your personal style in the pattern? I’d seen a lot of solid color beignets, but not many made from a print. I wanted something that I could wear this summer with solid colored tank tops. I tend not to be too matchy-matchy when it comes to clothing. I like that I could probably wear this skirt with any pair of shoes in my closet. I fell in love with these jade buttons and kind of went back and forth about using them on the skirt since they didn’t exactly “go.” But finally just did it and I think they help to make the skirt a bit more fun. I also chose to buy a skinny red belt instead of making the one in the pattern. I’m more than pleased with the outcome.
What thoughts do you have about the project? This was the second thing I’ve ever sewn for myself from a pattern (I usually make children’s clothes) so I won’t lie… this was a hard one for me to get into right away! I mainly worked on this skirt in 1/2 hour increments when my kids were napping, so it took me weeks to finish. I found the instructions to be well written and informative. I did a lot of googling when it came to terms I didn’t understand, and I looked at many images online of other people’s finished skirts. I learned a TON from this pattern and feel like a more confident sewist. I will definitely make another one for the fall!
Thanks, Erin!

I think those jade buttons just make it – and you’re right, not everything has to ‘go’!

I love that it took you weeks in half-hour sessions – that’s how I sew too. Looks great!
