Featured Seamstress: Amy
I’m delighted to announce a new blog feature here at Colette Patterns, the Featured Seamstress! As you know, we’re changing things up with the blog and this is just one of the fun new things we’re doing. Every Monday a different seamstress will be highlighted with a little interview with her about her sewing project. Please welcome our first Featured Seamstress!
Name: Amy
Skill Level: Intermediate
Pattern: Crepe
Blog: Quixotic Pixels
Her post about the dress: Ironic Ric Rac
What kind of fabric did you use? I used a quilting cotton. I underlined the whole thing with cotton batiste to make the dress more opaque and to add body to the fabric. I wanted the skirt to appear full rather than limp.
How did you decide to reflect your personal style in the pattern? Personal style is a very difficult thing to describe. I would say that I am a practical person and that’s reflected in my clothing choices. I like basic styles that are comfortable to wear and make sense for my role as a stay-at-home mom. Crepe fits the bill perfectly!
What thoughts do you have about the project? One thing I like about the Crepe dress is that it is comfortable to wear. I don’t care how good something looks on me, I won’t wear it (much) if it’s uncomfortable. With wrap dresses, you often end up spending a lot of time fretting about accidental flashing and adjusting the ties. That simply isn’t a concern with this dress. There is plenty of overlap and the only time I adjust the ties is after indulging in a particularly large meal!
Thanks, Amy!

I sewed up a crepe for my 30th birthday party and it was so wonderful. I couldn’t believe how flattering it was! Your dress looks great.

I’m so excited about this new feature!!! Amy’s dress is gorgeous; and she is so right about something having to be comfortable. (Says she who used to throw comfort to the wind in favor of style. I must be getting old because I’d rather be comfortable now! lol.) Can’t wait to see future installments of this!

Me too! I used to never give much thought to comfort, but these days I’ve realized that I’ll wear something 10 times more if it feels good and easy to put on!

I think this is a great feature! Although I love trolling through the Flickr photos, some times there’s too much and I don’t properly look at each one. The only bad thing is my excessively large blog reading list is sure to get excessively larger… eep!
Love your dress Amy–cute styling, too!
