I’ll be teaching at Sewing Summit 2012!

I’m delighted to have been asked to teach a class at Sewing Summit this year!

It’s really cool to see an event like this one, geared for a wide range of sewing: crafts, quilts, garments, everything. Add in a modern aesthetic and a bit of blogging, and it sounds like a good time to me.

I haven’t finished planning out my class entirely, but the subject will be sewing with lace, which is something I’m really excited about right now. I’ll talk about the magic, wonder, and history of this incredibly beautiful textile; how to identify various types of lace; working with lace in large and small doses; and how to wear lace without looking like a bride. It might be the perfect time to get inspired for making holiday dresses or fancy winter loungewear.

Sewing Summit will be held October 11-13 in Salt Lake City, and I hope to meet some of you there! I believe tickets go on sale April 3.

By the way, did any of you go to last year’s event? I’d love to hear what the experience was like for you.

Awesome! I went last year, and am on the fence about returning (life stuff, not the event). This might be persuading me :)

I love the idea of the heavier denim and quilting cotton for the facings. I’m going to try that.

I wish I could go! It sounds like it will be a lot of fun and informative and that you’ll meet very interesting people. I hope you have a grand time!

I did go last year and it was lots of fun! We had some fabulous teachers, but the main focus seemed to be quilting and I am just not a quilter. I am looking forward to going again this year and would love to take your class! I love sewing with lace and doing lace shaping, but mostly do it on heirloom type clothing. I would love to get some ideas on adding lace to everyday clothing without it looking to “heirloomy”.

I recent made some antique lace belts as presents for friends and they were a huge hit. I used the follow tutorial – http://tonicoward.blogspot.com.au/2011/04/lace-belt-tutorial.html It’s too far for me to travel to attend the Summit, so I would adore it if you could post some photos of what you get up to.
