Blog tour and big giveaway for The Colette Sewing Handbook!

All through the month of November, I’ll be participating in a blog tour to help share The Colette Sewing Handbook with the world!

As many of you know, with this book I really wanted to create something that would be a guide to more thoughtful, beautiful, and engaged sewing. That’s why I tried to cover topics that aren’t always well represented in sewing books, such as planning out projects, learning about different types of fabric, and getting a good fit. These are the types of things I wish I’d learned first thing, rather than through years of trial and error. And of course, I wanted it to be very visual and hands on.

You’ll get a chance to see some of that in the posts on the blog tour, as well as some interviews and giveaways.

Giveaway

I’m also doing a giveaway right here, for a copy of the book (signed, of course!) and five patterns of your choice. All you have to do is leave a comment here letting me know your favorite pattern (either from the book or the shop), and I’ll draw a winner on Dec. 5, once the tour is over.

This giveaway is open to everyone, and I will ship worldwide!

ETA: We have a winner! Congratulations to Renee, who was randomly chosen by the random number generator, with her comment:

“I’ve been waiting for a book like this one! My favorite would be……….the Lady Grey coat! I love it!”

I love the Peony pattern. The first time that I saw it, it took my breathe away. And, in addition, I love peonys!!

My favourite pattern is macaron, so lovely!

I love the Macaron pattern, it’s such a unique dress.
I’ve also bought the Lady Grey, but I’m a bit scared to make it!
I hope the book goes well, I’ve put it on my Christmas list!

I think Jasmine is my current favorite- but Peony and Cinnamon are up there too. It’s so hard to choose!

I think my favorite is the lady grey coat

I have sewed the Beignet skirt and have nearly worn it out I wear it so often. I also have the Ginger in my sewing line up. The pattern that I think might be my favorite though is the Sencha–it is the one that I am always trying to come up with a reason to sew.
Thanks!

I am a dress junkie, so it has to be one of those patterns – probably Chantilly, although Macaron is extremely fetching as well.

November 3, 2011 #

WOW! One of my favorites is Lady Grey but really it is so hard to choose!!

I really love the ‘Peony’ dress. The bateau neckline is lovely and I like the addition of the cumberbund.

Wow, what an amazing prize. I really love the Beignet skirt.

It’s hard to choose a favorite pattern! For this purpose, though, I’m going with the crepe. The crepe was my first real project and every time I wear it, I get oodles of compliments. Perhaps it’s because I made it with a pretty blue flower fabric and everything else I wear is black.

I just bought the newest three patterns with a gift certificate that I got for my birthday, but when I saw the give-away, I immediately knew I would get the Lady Grey. The beauty of this give-away, is that while it’s hard to choose a favorite, it’s easy to satisfy the craving for more Colette Patterns.

So far I’m loving my Sencha! But as I’m getting ready to start Ceylon that could change. I also look forward to trying the patterns in the book!

Oh my, I cannot resist this contest!

As to my favorite Colette patterns . . . I am torn between the fabulous Ceylon and the extremely useful Beignet – I have seen so many versions of both, and all of them look absolutely fabulous!

I’ve just finished my muslin for the Crepe dress and I can’t wait to get it sewn in my fabric so I can wear it. All the completed versions I’ve seen have been so pretty and flattering, I’m super excited! I’ve been drooling over the Crepe for months, I’m so glad I finally treated myself to the pattern.

Amy

November 3, 2011 #

Oh my, is it possible to pick a favorite? I think mine might be Crepe. But the Jasmine and Sencha are close seconds! And Lady Grey. I just might want to sew them all, but first I need the book to build some confidence so that I know when I order a pattern that I’ll know how to modify it for a good fit, and therefore will love what I make!

Max

November 3, 2011 #

Lots of fun ideas to get machine humming! I guess Jasmine blouse.. and others too. ha

November 3, 2011 #

I think my favourite is the Parfait. I have the pattern here just waiting for the right fabric. I was so inspired by ‘Handmade Jane’s’ version. So beautiful.

November 3, 2011 #

My favourite pattern is the Truffle dress… Of course, I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but I’m so excited to do so some time soon!

I’m a big fan of dresses. I very like the Peony Dress. It’s so simple, but also great to style.
But here in Germany i can’t find it to order. I hope my english is not to bad, but i never learned it in school, only in reading blogs about sewing ;-)

November 3, 2011 #

My favorite pattern in your collection would have to be the Lady Grey. I love how glamorous and versatile it is. Bringing drama to a pair of jeans and a simple sweater or working over a suit or dress with class.
I look forward to each new post on this blog, and check it several times a day, hopefully. I love all the projects and the clear presentation of tips and instructions.
Can`t wait to see the book!

November 3, 2011 #

My favourite pattern would have to be the Crepe dress. So simple and versatile. I’ve only got two Colette patterns so I’d love to win some more. I’ve been really impressed with the quality of the patterns and instructions. Can’t wait to read the book :)

I love the Negroni pattern. It finally convinced my husband that my habit was worthwhile and it fits him wonderfully. When he tells people (with pride) that I made it they are always surprised.

Deb

November 3, 2011 #

Oh, I’m so excited for you and can’t wait to see the book in person. I really want to learn to sew things that are beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. I am in love with the Lady Grey and the Clover pants pattern. And the Negroni would be great for my husband’s “urban lumberjack” style as we jokingly call it.

November 3, 2011 #

I love the Jasmine….

Carlotta

November 4, 2011 #

Just one favorite? I’ll have to say the Ceylon dress, because it’s just so lovely and ladylike. Although I can’t wait to try the new patterns in the book!

Pauline

November 4, 2011 #

My favourite is the Crepe dress. I love the idea of the wrap around dress. It is timeless and suits my body type. Although I think it suits most body types too! I would also love to see Colette patterns here in Brisbane, Australia. I have seen a couple of your suppliers but they don’t actually have any patterns. Sigh.

bprinz

November 4, 2011 #

Congrats to the fantastic book. I’m afraid I’ll have to buy one if I do not win. ;)
By the way: My favorite pattern is Chantilly.

Jennifer

November 4, 2011 #

My favorite patterns are Lady Grey and Parfait!

Stephanie

November 4, 2011 #

How exciting! Well, although I have sewn a couple of Colette patterns already and really liked them, I’m currently eyeing Oolong and Jasmine and can’t wait to order them. So I suppose these are my favourite at the moment. Perhaps it’s the cleverness of the bias cut that I want to see for myself. What? No closures? What I really like about Colette patterns is that they are really made for curvier women. I remember sewing the Crepe dress without having to do an FBA and I’m a G cup! Usually I have to perform wild surgeries on my patterns because my big bust throws all measurements off. On Colette patterns, so far, it has only been a little tweaking here and there and the fit was perfect.

Jimena

November 4, 2011 #

I love the Peony dress, it’s so pretty and I love the option of long sleeves, it’s so difficult to find a nice dress with long sleeves for the winter so you don’t have to pick a matching jacket or cardigan to go over it.

Elaine

November 4, 2011 #

Would love a copy of this book as the patterns are hard to find here in the UK, Gertie often raves about your patterns and would love to try them out. Have a good tour, shame your not going to make it over here so I could come along and get a signed copy.

November 4, 2011 #

What a nice giveaway! I really like the Sencha blouse pattern!

Hannelore

November 4, 2011 #

I love all your patterns ! I only own two: Beignet and Negroni. I’m currently making my fourth Beignet, such a great skirt. And Sorbetto. Hmm, three so far, but fabric earmarked for further versions. You’re such a fabulous resource for the home sewer too. Keep em coming. And if I win … Well that Jasmine has my name on it. Even if I don’t win !

I’m still strengthening my sewing skills (notably taking advantage of tips and tutorials from this great blog) and it gets harder and harder to resist to your patterns, and especially to your Crepe dress!

The Jasmine for sure. Or maybe the Violet. Both so gorgeous and similar but different. All your patterns are so pretty
Thanks for the giveaway!

November 4, 2011 #

I’m so excited for your book!
I’d love to win this prize. It’s so difficult to choose a favourite pattern – I imagine my wardrobe to one day be filled with variations on all of your designs!

If I had to choose – I’d narrow it down to Clover and Jasmine. I’m getting married next year – and I want my bridesmaids in those separates! xx

Libby

November 4, 2011 #

My current favourite is the Negroni which I’m just finishing for my husband. It’s the first garment I’ve made for him AND Amy first shirt. I’ve always been too scared of making something NQR he feels obligated to wear, but after seeing Mena’s version I was confident I could make something he would like. And he does! I’m sure I’ll be making more versions in the future.
PS His birthday is 5 Dec….

Alice

November 4, 2011 #

My favourite pattern in the book is definately peony – I’m going to have to try very hard not to jump right in and attempt that one first! I love so many patterns in the shop it’s hard to choose but I can’t wait to make Beignet, so classic and great wardrobe staple. I’m currently 5 months pregnant so making any patterns right now is out out of the question as I can’t fit them but I’m itching to get started!

Mary

November 4, 2011 #

I love the Crepe, but also adore the Sorbetto…a sweet blouse to use up little bits! Thanks for the great giveaway.

Claire Leach

November 4, 2011 #

This is difficult when they are all so lovely. I really like the Rooibos and Macaron that I have made already. The Negroni shirt is great too – have made two but changed the collar following the sew-along at ‘Male Pattern Boldness’. Have just ordered Peony and Jasmine, so they may be the next favourites! (A wide legged pants and a curvy jacket pattern would be lovely some time!)

Alexandra

November 4, 2011 #

My favourite is still the Sencha blouse, although I love them all! You can do SO MUCH with the Sencha! It’s so versatile! I could make another five and still have room for more in my wardrobe!

Jennifer – Un Petit Design

November 4, 2011 #

I really love the Clover pattern, cannot wait to add it to my collection. Thanks for the giveaway!

Amy Chris

November 4, 2011 #

Wow. I can’t describe the excitement at the possibility of winning this! I love all the patterns, but the new ones have caught my eye. The Clover? Amazing. Peony? Pretty incredible. Anyways, even if I don’t win, I’m glad to have another chance to oogle some prettiness!

Katarina

November 4, 2011 #

Oh, it’s really difficult to pick just one, I’d say Sencha (and Macaron and Pastille and Crepe and…:). Thanks for the giveaway!

Carol James

November 4, 2011 #

I have just ordered my first ever Colette pattern – the Jasmine blouse. I am a transcriptionist and can’t stand to have long sleeves hanging by my wrists while I type all day, so this short-sleeve blouse will be perfect for me. The book looks fantastic too!

Jen

November 4, 2011 #

Great excerpt on Sewaholic today! It makes me eager to read the whole thing. :)

I love Beignet. It’s such a wardrobe staple, but with so many possibilities for beautiful variations.

Clare

November 4, 2011 #

Wow! I KNOW I won’t win this giveaway but how I would love to…! Of the five patterns I’ve made (Parfait, Beignet, Sencha, Ginger and Rooibos) I can’t choose between Parfait and Rooibos. I’ve made both three times each and have more versions planned. Rooibos maybe wins because it works so well throughout the year in different fabrics while Parfait is the best sundress pattern ever.

Lisa

November 4, 2011 #

I love this super-bountiful giveaway! And can’t wait to dig into the new book. My fav pattern has got to be the new cigarette pant, Clover.

Karen

November 4, 2011 #

I have bought the book and my favorite pattern is the last beautiful white dress with the drape. Soooo elegant. I also love the Parfait.

Darsana

November 4, 2011 #

I’ve been dreaming of the Macaron dress in lace and wool–I just have to be brave enough to try it!

Heather

November 4, 2011 #

What a great giveaway! I love the Lady Grey, which I own but haven’t made yet. However, I do have lovely fawn colored wool fabric and am buying pearl colored kasha lining today (that is if it doesn’t snow too much before I leave for the fabric store!!). I even found a pair of soft knitted gloves that are long to wear with it as the sleeves are not full length – whee!

MzTallulah

November 4, 2011 #

I love the Jasmine blouse, it’s classic and stylish and fun at the same time. Thank you for the giveaway and congratulations on the book!

Iben Overgaard

November 4, 2011 #

It is hard to choose, but I really love the Peony. I just need to find the perfect fabric and then I will be making it.

Brenda

November 4, 2011 #

The pattern I would most like to make is Lady Grey but as I am a beginner with garment I think the Peony dress is beautiful and would add to my work wardrobe.

Christine

November 4, 2011 #

I love crepe with a deep and lasting love. But the Jasmine blouse may have to be mine also. Also the dress from the book where you did the lace insertion tutorial chez Gertie…. gorgeous. And the Peony dress too. Yeah, I like pretty much everything you do!!

Jennifer

November 4, 2011 #

I love the Lady Grey which I have almost got complete!

andrea

November 4, 2011 #

Violet is my favorite pattern (tho perhaps something in your new book will knock it off its pedestal?) I love separates, as I’m much more of a pants and shirt kind of gal instead of dresses.

Your Sorbetto is a close second! I made a few of them this summer, and was even able to use a remnant of my favorite Liberty of London print for one of them. Smashing!

Lisa P

November 4, 2011 #

Looking forward to meeting you at your book party! Going to make a pair of clover pants soon. I think the Peony is my favorite pattern to date.

Julie Mari

November 4, 2011 #

I think your book looks so interesting and beautiful :)
It’s hard to choose only one pattern as a favourite, but I think it might be the Jasmine :) Or the Violet :)

Thanks for the giveaway! :)

Zena

November 4, 2011 #

My favourite pattern is Lady Grey. I bought it some time ago but haven’t made it yet. Having never made a coat before, I think I’m a little intimidated.

Kate Coley

November 4, 2011 #

My favourite pattern is actually two patterns to make one outfit and everyone can probably guess what they are. Sorbetto and Madelaine brought together to make one seriously cute set of pj’s. In fact they fully deserve a new name for when they’re used together. Your book is on my Amazon wish list and a link has been sent to all my relatives with the reminder that it’s Christmas soon.

Irene Bullock

November 4, 2011 #

While I enjoyed making (and wearing!) my Macaron dress, i still daydream of the Chantilly pattern. It was sold out when I made my big Colette patterns purchase but it’s definitively in the Xmas wishing list.

Missy

November 4, 2011 #

I think Clover is my favorite. I’ve never sewn pants and I think I’m ready to take the plunge after stalking the sewalong!

Barbara J

November 4, 2011 #

I like the Beignet skirt though I have yet to make it. I must conquer the dreaded buttonhole firts!

Barbara J

November 4, 2011 #

Ok – that would be “first” not “firts”!

Wanda

November 4, 2011 #

My favorites are Macaron-1001 and Chantilly-1002.

Tiffany

November 4, 2011 #

My current fave is the Ginger skirt pattern, but really, they’re all amazing. I can’t wait until this baby comes so I can stitch up a whole wardrobe of Colette dresses. Right now, they would all need a big stretchy insert so my belly could fit!

Ledys

November 4, 2011 #

Congratulations on the book! All patterns are wonderful, but I love Crepe and Sencha– so feminine!

Kyla

November 4, 2011 #

I just finished my first Ginger skirt and I love it! So that would be my favourite pattern that I have made. But my favourite style is the new Jasmine blouse – I love making skirts but I have very few tops to wear with them.

Rose

November 4, 2011 #

My favorite pattern is Rooibos! I like just about every version of that dress that I have seen! Thanks for the great giveaway!

Elisabeth

November 4, 2011 #

I’ve been enjoying book blog tour so far and clearly need to get my hands on the book! My favorite Colette pattern is the Oolong dress. I think it would really suit me done in a silky navy blue fabric with little white dots. I discovered Colette patterns after I got pregnant so I haven’t been able to make anything yet, but it’s on my post-baby list!

Lucy

November 4, 2011 #

Its extremely hard to choose, but I think Sencha might be my favorite pattern (that I’ve actually finished, that is). I have high hope for Rooibos, but I’d like to hone my fitting skills before attempting it! I’m very excited to make the Truffle dress, too.

Sarah Johnson

November 4, 2011 #

There’s just something about the peony dress that makes me sigh every time I see it…it has such a beautiful, classically feminine silhouette. Definitely next on my list to buy (but winning it would be amazing too!)

Dana

November 4, 2011 #

I can’t WAIT to see your book. I’ll be buying it if I don’t win it. :)

Nadia Lewis

November 4, 2011 #

My favourite pattern is Sencha!

Justine

November 4, 2011 #

I havn’t sewn a Colette pattern yet, but my favourite is definitely the macaron dress – the lines are so feminine but also fun.

edenz

November 4, 2011 #

I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on the book. I’ve been planning a Beignet for ages – so I’d have to say that’s my favorite.

Tina

November 4, 2011 #

oooh, that’s a hard one. Really liking the look of Chantilly though.

Nova

November 4, 2011 #

My favourite right now is the Violet variation with the puffy sleeves.

Stephanie

November 4, 2011 #

I’m lusting most after the Jasmine pattern… on my wish list for when I finish a few WIPs, including a second Sorbetto top.

Angie

November 4, 2011 #

Hi Sarai,

I just got the book and I’ve already picked out my fabrics for all 5 projects. The one I’m most excited to do is the Pastille dress. Thank you so much for the book! It is by far the most informative sewing book I have, and I really appreciate the philosophy of putting a lot of care and consideration into each product, rather than going fabric & pattern stash crazy which can get so overwhelming. I look forward to working on many more Colette projects.

Angela

November 4, 2011 #

It’s really hard to choose one absolute favourite, but I did narrow it down to two. They are the Ceylon Dress and the Sencha blouse. Congrats on your book!

Sarah Asarnow

November 4, 2011 #

I am obsessed with the Lady Grey coat. I also love that green version of the Licorice dress with the lace insert – that was a really fun post over at Gertie’s.
