Styling Taffy for Winter
This week I’m highlighting the lovely Taffy blouse from the Colette Sewing Handbook. This pretty pink version was made with silk chiffon, a tricky fabric! If you sew with something as lightweight as this, I highly recommend using a fabric spray stabilizer. The Taffy blouse can be dressed up or down, and made in so many fun colors and prints. I think it’d look so cute in a stripe with contrasting bias tape and ties. Be sure to pick a lightweight fabric for this shirt. It’s on the bias and meant to be drapey.
Have you made the Taffy blouse? What kind of fabric would you use? How do you envision wearing it? I’ve made a version in a gold cotton/rayon and wear it all the time with one of my several Ginger skirts.

The pretty in pink ensemble is something I would definitely wear! I want every piece. I can’t wait for my book to arrive so I can start with Taffy!

I do love Taffy, those soft sleeves just look so feminine to me. Enough coverage to be work appropriate but soft so I don’t end up overheating. I wear short sleeves in the winter fairly frequently as I tend to be too warm rather than too cold. I can always toss on a little sweater or scarf like you have in the first example.

I cannot WAIT to sew this pattern… I haven’t received my pr-eordered book yet but I already have fabric waiting to make this; it’s a navy blue rayon blend with a small geometric print – so feminine and professional at the same time. I adore the simplicity of this piece – I’m gonna make a whole fleet of them in every colour! ^__^

Super cute!! I love everything about both outfits! Although, you couldn’t get away with wearing either of them too easily during a winter in Vermont. The Taffy is beautiful, I’m definitely going to have to attempt that one for spring!

I just made this blouse there other night! It turned out beautifully! I made it in a dark jade chiffon with black silk bias tape! SUPER CUTE!

There really is only one fabric spray stabilizer: Sullivan’s. The rest are junk, even the homemade variety can burn on your fabric if you try to iron it. So go with Sullivan’s, the only stabilizer a sewist really needs. You can try it at home! Sullivan’s! Don’t turn on your sewing machine without it. (Cue: sewing machine whirring.) (End of corny commercial)

I have nearly finished the Taffy – hemming it today to wear tonight. I made the muslin in a pink swiss cotton. The realy deal is from a silk cotton voile. I see myself wearing it with a pencil skirt but may have to wear it for jeans for tonight.

I just got my Colette Sewing Handbook a few days ago and I have been pouring over it! Thank you for the informative and simple way of teaching that contains this book! It is not only beautifully laid out but I have been learning so much! The instructions are easy to follow and since I am a visual learner, I greatly appreciate the illustrations! Thank you! So excited to try these techniques on all the beautiful patterns!
