Free Pattern Hack: The Florence Slip

When I lived in L.A. I had a drawer full of vintage slips and nighties. These were all items I had picked up from thrift store over the years. These items were exclusively from the 1950’s onward. This meant that while they were pretty, they were synthetic.

When I made the move from Los Angeles to Portland, many of these items got donated. I felt sad as I drove away from my favorite charity shop. I just kept telling myself it is good thrift store karma, right?

I kept 2 pieces, on a handmade silk charmeuse full slip, and a vintage black half slip. These are gorgeous garments but they are both made of woven fabric. As a result, they can feel fussy and binding for everyday use. I love the idea of creating a knit slip that’s comfortable and easy to wear.

In February when the Florence bra was released, I knew that it could be easily hacked into an amazing knit slip. The addition of a skirt to Florence only adds 30 minutes to the project, but drastically changes to look of the piece, transforming it into an entirely different type of garment.

Make your Florence slip out of a slinky rayon knit, a silk jersey for a luxurious but comfortable slip. Or make this hack out of a light-weight cotton for a pretty nightie for warm summer nights.

Thank you to our lovely model, Solanah, and to Christine for the photography.

Don’t forget, Florence is just $5 this month only!

So cute! Great idea! I also like the photos. The model looks daring, and sweet, without too much of either.
