Her Post about the Pattern: I married a blob from the center of Mars

What kind of fabric did you use? I used a navy floral cotton lawn that I bought in a charity shop around the corner. The fabric came from the US and was designed by Sharon Kessler for Concord Fabrics.

How did you decide to reflect your personal style in the pattern? I didn’t really make any adjustments to the style of the dress, because I think it fits quite well with my personal style as it is! I was unsure initially about the fabric but once it was sewed up and I had a chance to look at it properly I decided I liked it a lot – all of the different colours in the print will give me a chance to have fun accessorising it! I hemmed it with some electric blue bias tape – I like hemming in this way because it gives a wee splash of colour there.

What thoughts do you have about the project? It’s definitely not perfect – I have some way to go with the Peony before I’m totally happy with the fit in the bodice. This one gapes a bit at the back and the neckline wrinkles. I’m not going to adjust this one any more – it’s wearable as is and pretty cute, I think – but for my next go I’m going to do another toile of the bodice. It’s all good fun, and good practice, though!

Very cute dress! I wonder if you should cut a smaller size in the upper bodice and do a full bust adjustment. That might eliminate the gaping at the center front neck. An option.

Good advice, thank you Alice! I had a similar idea myself so I’ll give it a try :)

Good, I’ll look forward to your next version of this cute dress. I love when I figure out a fitting problem. This is one I’ve struggled with for years and finally discovered that I wore a few sizes smaller in the pattern and needed the FBA! Good luck!

Roisin, this turned out really nicely. I like the fabric from the opshop. That’s the only fabric I buy these days…will be heading out later to try and find something as sweet as this.

I am going to go and read your blog to see if I can work out what the name means.

Ummmm Liberty of London!!! What a find at the local thrift store! I work at a shop that sells it and we all dream of being able to afford enough for a dress.

Love your version of this dress and your shoes are too cute! I’ve been on the fence but you’ve convinced me to make my own floral version of peony.

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the lovely comments – I’m certainly inspired to get the fit right on the bodice of this – I promise to share all in the forum as I go along :)

For anyone enquiring about the shoes – they were a birthday gift from my sisters and they got them in a tween chain called Internacionale, which doesn’t have an ecommerce site (but their website and store locater is here: http://www.internacionale.co.uk/) You might get lucky on ebay, though…
