What kind of fabric did you use? It is a rayon-blend synthetic tweed.

How did you decide to reflect your personal style in the pattern? I was just about to take credit for the length of the skirt but just remembered I originally lengthened the pattern to match a 40s skirt of my grandmother’s, for a Sew Weekly Challenge! I loved the result so much that I used the same lengthened pattern for the next two iterations of Ginger that I made, a black and white chevron stripe and the rust tweed. This one does reflect my personal style the most of the three, being tweed. I do especially love fabric with rich color, surface texture and yarn interest.

What thoughts do you have about the project? I can’t believe I’d never sewn an A-line skirt before Ginger came along! I am hooked. My first attempt, in red linen with a curvy waistband, sadly will never see the light of day, but I think I have really found a shape that works with my frame that I can move out from. I did have to modify the enclosed invisible zipper finish feature for the heavier tweed fabric in this case, but I love how quickly and easily this pattern comes together. Ginger makes such a great, wearable canvas for beautiful fabrics and pops of colors.

Thanks, Hillary!

Love the Ginger lengthened, and your choice of fabric! I’ve seen your lovely pictures on flickr, but just now took a moment to look at your blog – put it on my reader and can’t wait to read it closely!

Gorgeous. I must get some tweed and make one! I love your mustard ginger too, and the whole look of the photo…. I made a blue liberty poplin one end of summer – tiny flowers – same length as yours – I don’t like above knee lengths – and love it.
